About Us

Jolly Rogues started as a group of friends who took their pub crawls too seriously. What began as a notebook of the best bars in every city we visited became a blog, then a guide, and eventually this — a no-nonsense magazine for people who appreciate a good drink in a good place.

We cover bar culture, pub history, cocktail trends, and the dive bars and rooftop joints worth knowing about. We're equally comfortable in a sticky-floored local as we are in a speakeasy with a twelve-page cocktail menu. What matters to us isn't the price tag or the Instagram appeal — it's whether the place is any good.

Our writing is led by Rory Flanagan, a drinks journalist who has spent the better part of two decades visiting bars, pubs, and drinking establishments across six continents. From London's historic boozers to Bangkok's hidden soi bars, Rory writes with the authority of someone who has been there, drunk that, and lived to tell the tale.

We believe that drinking culture matters. Pubs and bars are more than places to consume alcohol — they're community hubs, cultural touchstones, and some of the last remaining spaces where strangers can become friends over a shared table. We write about these places because we think they deserve to be written about properly.

No sponsored content. No paid placements. No lists written by someone who's never left their desk. Just honest writing about the places and drinks that make the world a more interesting place to navigate with a glass in your hand.
